A Brailler for Farangiz

Recently, The Trinity Rose Foundation received a request by Mrs. Shelley Mack who is a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and and a Certified Braille Transcriber.  Shelley works closely with many visually impaired children in the NorthEast Ohio area – and, we’re lucky enough to have her as Trinity’s teacher.

Shelley reached out to us because one of her other students, Farangiz Boymurodova, has made tremendous strides learning Braille in the last year.  A quiet, shy, blind child from Uzbekistan was finding it extremely difficult to socialize, let alone communicate here.  Learning Braille – and how to communicate with Shelley and others – opened Farangiz’s heart to some real possibilities.

And then came the news that her father had been transferred to a job back in Uzbekistan.

It turns out the Boymurodova family really doesn’t have much in the way of resources back home.  Support for the visually impaired in Uzbekistan really isn’t accessible – and Farangiz and her family were devastated that they really didn’t have access to a Brailler back home.

So Shelley had an idea: could the Trinity Rose Foundation purchase a Brailler for Farangiz to take back home and continue learning and communicating with those around her?

Once we heard the story, we couldn’t refuse.  We quickly purchased a Brailler for Farangiz – and you can see that’s she’s one happy young lady by the pictures.

The Trinity Rose Foundation would like to thank you, our friends and sponsors, for your donations that have helped make today’s donation a reality. Here’s Shelley’s note to us:

Attached are pictures of Farangiz with her new Perkins brailler. She and her family were thrilled! I copied some information from your website and translated it into Russian so they would know at least a little bit about the Foundation. I also translated a picture release form that her mother signed and will get it to you when I have a chance.

On behalf of the Boymurodova family and myself, thank you to the Trinity Rose Foundation for the gift of literacy you have given Farangiz. I recently learned from them that there is indeed a small place in Uzbekistan that works with blind people, though Farangiz did not go there. They do not have any Braille writers. What little education they receive, they do in Braille with only slate and stylus. It is quite possible that she will have the only Brailler in the country! Thank you so much for the positive impact you have made in this child’s life.

With much gratitude,
Shelley Mack
